Miguel returns to the East Side with his cracking quintet which play a mixture of jazz compositions from the 60’s and originals inspired by Joe Henderson, Sam Rivers, Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane and several more contemporary jazz musicians.
Miguel Gorodi is a London based trumpet player, composer and teacher working across a broad spectrum of jazz and improvised music. He leads several ensembles playing music that reflects his interests in contemporary and traditional ideas in Jazz. Gorodi released his debut album Apophenia on Ubuntu in 2019 featuring his original compositions for Nonet. His versatility has seen him work across many styles of music with musicians and projects such as Ian Shaw, Jamie Callum, BBC Big Band, Barry Green, SEED Ensemble, Yazz Ahmed, Femi Temowo, The London Jazz Orchestra, Smitty’s House Band, London City Big Band, Hackney Colliery Band, The Ticklers, Riot Jazz and many others. He has performed in Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Norway, Hungary, Ireland, Russia, Monaco and across the UK.
Nathaniel Facey One of the UK’s finest and most exciting saxophonists, Nathaniel Facey has been a prominent figure on the European jazz scene for over a decade, and has worked with the likes of Jack DeJohnette and Jason Moran. A truly unique sound that, while reminiscent of giants such as Charlie Parker, Eric Dolphy, and John Coltrane, is undeniably his own; full of ferocious passion and lyrical mastery. A founding member of the multi award-winning group Empirical that have toured the world, audiences are constantly blown away by Facey’s command over his instrument and the stage. He is undoubtably always one to watch, whatever line-up he is involved with, and is sure to bring an intensity that is rarely seen in musicians. Alcyona Mick is a pianist working at the forefront of the London jazz scene and has been performing internationally for many years. She is a member of the London Jazz Orchestra, Tori Freestone/Alcyona Mick Duo, Bachar Zarkan ensemble, Eddie Parker’s Debussy Mirrored ensemble, Josephine Davies’ Orenda trio, Brigitte Beraha Lucid dreamers, Randolph Matthews band, Merit Ariane Ensemble, Noel Langley’s Edentide ensemble, John Warren Nonet, Paul Clarvis/Stuart Hall trio, Samy Bishai quartet. She has worked with Anglo/Egyptian singer Natacha Atlas for many years, performing worldwide. She has played on TRT music series in Istanbul with many Turkish artists, and performed with a wide array of other musicians including Yazz Ahmed, Ingrid and Christine Jensen/Whirlwind bigband, Nikki Iles bigband, Alec Dankworth/Cleo Laine band, Mircan Kaya, Jerry Dammers Spatial aka Orchestra, Ibrahim Maalouf, Macadi Nahhas, Zoe Rahman and many more.
Calum Gourlay – London-based double bassist and composer Calum is known for his deep warm tone, controlled execution as both a supporter and improviser, and rock-solid time and pulse. Born in Glasgow, he began his musical journey playing the cello in primary school and by the age of 14 he started playing the double bass, having developed a serious interest in jazz and improvised music. Calum’s talents were noticed by many of Scotland’s premier artists and, as a result, he became the first bassist selected for the first Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra, as well as other ensembles.He has played at the East Side many times as well as bringing his own quintet to the club
James Maddren – Currently one of the UK’s (and increasingly Mainland Europe’s) first-call young drummers, he enjoys listening to and performing all kinds of music and has shared the stage with many artists and ensembles, including the Gwilym Simcock, Kit Downes Trio, Jacob Collier, Marc Copland/Stan Sulzman Quartet, The Mark McKnight Organ Quartet featuring Seamus Blake, Ivo Neame Group, Phil Donkin, Alex Garnett’s Bunch of Five, Michael Janisch, Will Vinson, Martin Speake Quartet, Phronesis, Jonathan Bratoeff Quartet, Nikkie Iles, Norma Winstone, among others.
