We have seen Sean Payne at the East Side as part of Clark Tracey’s Quintet.

Sean Payne is a British Saxophonist and Composer. Raised in a
Musical family, Sean began learning the Saxophone at the age of 8,
being taught by his Mother. Sean fell in love with Jazz at the age of
11, after hearing Cannonball Adderley and joined the Purcell
School of Music a year later. At the age of 13, Sean was the
youngest ever finalist in the first ever BBC Young Jazz Musician of
the Year Final. Sean joined the Royal Academy Junior Jazz
Department at the age of 14 and since then, started to play gigs
around the UK. Sean worked with Clark Tracey’s Quintet from
2017-2020 and recorded an album with the group entitled ‘No
Doubt’, released on TenToTen records. In 2018, Sean began his
studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In 2019, Sean
was selected to compete in the Semi Finals of the first ever Michael
Brecker International Saxophone Competition in Israel.
Sean has performed frequently in all the major London venues,
such as Ronnie Scott’s/ Pizza Express Soho/606 club/Vortex/Kansas
Smitty’s and has also performed in various venues around Europe
such as, Bimhuis/Stadtgarten/King Georg/LOFT/Art Theatre and
more! Sean has worked with musicians such as Kit Downes, Nigel
Hitchcock, Gwilym Simcock, Clark Tracey, Pablo Held, Alex Garnett,
James Maddren, Mark Nightingale and Tom Cawley.
Freddie Jensen was first introduced to the double bass at the age
of 7, and after a few years of classical training was introduced to
jazz. Since then he has gone on to be a finalist in the 2014 BBC
Young Musician of the Year jazz award, and win the jazz
competition at the 5th European Biennial Double Bass Congress in
Prague in 2016. He has worked with artists such as Gwilym Simcock
and Norma Winstone.
Kai Craig is a London based drummer. Born into a musical family,
his musical inspiration was sparked by hearing recordings of
musical legends ranging from Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis
and Ahmad Jamal, to Prince, Stevie Wonder and The Beatles. His
exposure to a wide range of music and an early introduction to lots
of different playing styles enabled him to develop his foundation,
understanding of music, and planted the seed from which his own
unique playing approach grew. Kai first picked up sticks at the age
of 2, and began formally studying the drums with his father at the
age of 6. Since the age of 15, Kai has had his sights set on studying
jazz and moved to London aged 18 to study at the Royal Academy
of Music, where he is currently in his final year. Kai currently studies
under Greg Hutchinson, who he considers to be his greatest
influence on the drum set. In the past, he has had the great honour
to have studied with Marcus Gilmore, Francesco Ciniglio, Jason
Brown, Martin France, Ian Thomas, James Maddren and while at
the Academy, enjoyed opportunities to work with the likes of Stan
Sulzmann, Dave Holland, Tim Garland, Laurence Cottle, Jim Hart,
Anders Jormin and Soweto Kinch.
The trio will be showcasing a mix of original compositions,
standards and modern compositions by the likes of Kenny Kirkland,
Jerry Bergonzi and Joey Calderazzo.
